Salvador P. Baylan, MD

Dr. Salvador Pintado Baylan is a long-time Texan resident and physician. Born in Manila, Philippines during World War II, Baylan grew up in humble origins, and his desire for a better life motivated him to complete his medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. When Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial law, Baylan fled to the US to join Faye, his loving wife of 48 years.

In 1978, Dr. Baylan completed his fellowship in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he also taught as an assistant professor. He laid down his roots in San Antonio and founded a clinic that has flourished the last 43 years and treats thousands of patients annually. He has served as President and Chairman of the Texas Medical Association Section of PM&R and President of the Philippine American Physiatrist Association. He is a member of the Texas PM&R Society, the American Academy of PM&R, and the Bexar County Medical Foundation.

Dr. Baylan has stellar record for community service. Through his practice, he has opened doors for hundreds of people, many of whom are Filipino Americans. He has mentored and provided invaluable work experience to many generations of Filipinos who have later become doctors, nurses, lawyers, and physical therapists, including his own son who is now a practicing plastic surgeon. He is a supporter of Filipino civic organizations including the Philippine Women’s Association, Philippine Nurses Association, and Organization of Filipinos in Texas. Dr. Baylan is a devoted parishioner at Santo Nino Catholic Church and served as Chairman of the parish council. He received the “Lumen Gentium” (Light of the Nations) award given by Archbishop Gustavo Siller.

Dr. Baylan is a father of four: Jenny, Joseph, Jessica, and Judith and personally enabled them to become successful first-generation Filipino Americans by investing in their education at top tier universities.

Dr. Baylan is a renaissance man as an avid reader, chef, golfer, and horticulturalist. He is considered “the Godfather” or “Don Salvador” by those around him. Dr. Baylan has long been a cherished figurehead to the Filipino American community.
